Update 9/23: We’ve now learned that the project originally set to be announced today has been delayed, likely until October 1st.

In addition, the announcement that was set for today does not appear to have been the new perks, but something else entirely. We’ll try to find out more information and keep you up to date, so look forward to new information once we learn it.

Previous coverage below.

We recently reported on new add-on codes found in T-Mobile’s systems that indicate new perks are coming. We now have indication that these perks may be announced tomorrow, Wednesday, September 23rd.

We’ve been told that something is planned for Wednesday relating to plans, and that employees are being offered extra breaks every day this week. Based on this information, we have a few guesses as to what could be happening.

New Plans (Unlikely)

The first possibility (please no not again) is a set of new plans.

These new plans would include the perks we reported earlier this week, and would be a value refresh to compete with Verizon’s latest offerings.

We have no solid info that there are new plans in the works, and typically in the past, employees were offered overtime in advance of new plans. That hasn’t happened this week.

We don’t think this outcome is likely, but T-Mobile has surprised us before. That being said, cheaper plans would definitely be welcome.

Same Plans, New Perks (Likely)

The most likely scenario is that T-Mobile announces the new pick your perk system. The catch would be that T-Mobile might limit these new perks to the “2.0” plans (the ones that have 36-month financing instead of 24 and was part of the “Introducing Nothing” announcement).

This would be their way of adding value to these new plans and entice existing customers on 1.0 plans to move over to the 2.0 plans. Specifically, customers on a plan like Experience More 1.0 (with 24-month financing) would be invited to change to 2.0 and get free perks with no change to their bill.

Why? It’s likely T-Mobile would prefer customers be “locked in” to 36-month financing with bill credits to hold onto customers longer.

There is also a chance T-Mobile offers these new perks to every modern plan. That would be quite the Un-Carrier move, but given recent history it’s more likely, in my opinion, that it’ll be limited to only some plans at the very least.

We’ll keep an eye out for more news and update if we learn more. For now, keep an eye out on Wednesday for some news out of T-Mobile!
