In a surprise to no one, T-Mobile’s T-Mix plans are now official. Since the details leaked about as much as a new Google Pixel does 3 months before launch, you may already be familiar with many of the details.

However, you should really be aware of how bad these new plans are, especially if you’re thinking of signing up for them.

The new T-Mix plans, coming in three standard flavors (Standard, More, and Loaded), offer a new “picks” system that claims to give customers the ability to customize their perks exactly how they want. Unfortunately, the devil is in the details.

Here is everything bad about the new T-Mix plans that you should know before considering signing up.

T-Mobile doesn’t want to pay for your new phone

The biggest change with T-Mix is that phone promos are no longer something you can rely on being part of your plan. Instead of having a regular set of promos that you can take advantage of at any time, T-Mix forces you to “buy” your promos with “picks”.

For example, on Experience Beyond right now, you can get $1,000 off a brand new Apple iPhone by trading in an older iPhone in any condition (as old as an iPhone 15 Pro). Your entire account can use this promo up to four times. That means a family of four can decide to upgrade their current set of iPhones right now to brand new iPhone 18 Pros and pay about $22.23 total per month (on a 36-month plan).

However, on T-Mix, that same promo will cost you three picks each. If you have those same four lines on T-Mix Loaded, that’s twelve picks. But guess what? Four lines on T-Mix Loaded only gets you 11 picks total (3 for lines 1-3, and 2 for line 4). That means your fourth line is out of luck on their upgrade.

That’s not all. If you did decide to spend 9 picks on 3 of your lines, and then the remaining two picks on line four for a worse promo, that uses up all of your picks. For three years. That means you have none left over for any free perks, nor can you get any other phone promos during that three years.

There’s also a bit of bonus info we’ve learned, and that is the possibility that T-Mobile will offer free pro-level phones (like an iPhone 18 Pro) for a whopping 5 picks, with no trade-in or new line needed. That’s not too enticing in my opinion, but maybe it’s a good fit for someone out there.

There’s no such thing as free (on T-Mix)

Many of you reading this are likely familiar with T-Mobile’s history of handing out free lines. Even right now, on the Experience More and Experience Beyond plans, if you get three or more lines, that third line is free via promo.

There’s also been numerous “Line On Us” promos over the years. Many customers, myself included, have claimed a bunch of these free lines over the years.

All of that ends with T-Mix. Our sources say that all free lines, including third line free, are entirely incompatible with T-Mix.

This is important for those of you on older plans thinking about switching. If you have any free lines right now, or even discounted lines, they will become full-price paid lines on T-Mix.

One promo per line

On T-Mobile’s current and past plans, customers could get as many Recurring Device Credits (RDCs) as they wanted per line. In English, that means that you can buy a new phone on promo with a line that is already receiving credits for a phone promo, and it works without issue.

With T-Mix, that changes. Every line on a T-Mix plan is limited to one RDC per line. That means if you’re getting device credits on a phone, and two years later you want to buy another phone on promo, you’ll have to pay off the first device (and lose the remaining credits).

That being said, it’s unlikely you’d have the spare picks needed to add a second promo to a line anyway….so there’s that.

What once was free is now a fee

Experience plans and older grandfathered plans all included some kind of free perks, from Netflix, Hulu, and Apple TV, to things like T-Satellite and Scam Shield. Those are no longer simply included in your plan on T-Mix.

For example, right now, a customer signing up for a brand new Experience Beyond plan will receive Netflix Standard w/Ads, Apple TV for $3/month, and Hulu all for free. Plus, you get T-Satellite for free.

Once T-Mix launches, every single one of those benefits will cost “picks”.

Lets say you’re on Experience Beyond with four lines. You have access to those great phone promos mentioned earlier, plus free Netflix, free Hulu, and free T-Satellite. All included in the cost of your plan.

On T-Mix Loaded, that same four lines will now have to spend some of their 11 picks for those benefits. Netflix with ads? 1 pick. Hulu? That’s another pick. T-Satellite? Yep, you guessed it, one more pick. But wait! You’ve now spent three of your 11 picks on perks that were free before, and now you only have 8 left to spend on phone promos! Enjoy fighting with your family members on who gets the good phone deals!

Oh, and remember when we said Netflix Premium would cost a single pick initially? It seems T-Mobile has changed their mind on that, because it’s now shown at the full four-pick price. Ouch

So what do you do?

If you’re reading this before November 5th, and you’ve been thinking about switching to T-Mobile, I suggest doing it now.

Once T-Mix launches, it’s likely that the Experience plans will no longer be available, and those are infinitely better than the T-Mix plans. Even with T-Mix’s increased autopay discounts, you’re going to lose out on a lot of free benefits.

So who is T-Mix for? Well, if you want a postpaid plan with a bunch of perks on T-Mobile’s network, and you have a large family, and you pretty much never want to take advantage of a subsidized phone promo, maybe T-Mix is for you. Even then, it’s a hard sell.

T-Mix plans are expected to launch on November 5th, 2026. If you’d like to learn even more about T-Mix and what it entails, check out our full guide here.
