Many long-time customers of T-Mobile are familiar with the “Insider Code” discount. It’s been around in various forms for about a decade now, and offers 20% off all voice lines on an account.

The original idea was employees could share their exclusive discount code with friends and family, or to convince a prospective customer that’s on the fence to sign up. Over time, it became the most prized discount for new accounts.

Now T-Mobile has a new insider code, but this time it’s way more widely available. The catch? It’s only half as good as the OG.

Insider for all, sort of

insider discount coming to existing magenta max customers

Available now in the T-Life app, some existing customers can now share a unique referral code to a friend to give them a 10% off discount on all voice lines for the life of the new account.

Update: The tile is only showing for some customers, not all, and it may be limited to accounts that they themselves have insider on already.

It’s essentially the same insider perk as we all know and love, but just 10% off instead of 20%. In fact, it seems it works the same way internally as the regular insider discounts. Basically, an account-level discount is applied to the new account, and from then on every voice line gets 10% off.

Even if you add new lines years later, they too will get 10% off.

For example, a new account on Experience Beyond 2.0 with four lines should cost $193.50 before taxes and fees. That’s a savings of $21.50 over the standard rate. Not necessarily a huge savings, but it’s still better than nothing.

Not only that, but insider is pretty unique in that it can stack with pretty much all promos. A new customer using the 10% discount can still claim full-value phone promos, future buy-one-get-one offers on new lines, etc.

How it works

A quick note, you’ll need to port in from an eligible carrier to redeem the discount. That includes Verizon, AT&T, and usually any MVNO that operates exclusively on either of their networks, such as Visible (which uses Verizon), as well as any regional carriers like the ones found on this page.

If you meet those requirements and are looking for a code, ask a friend or family member that already has T-Mobile postpaid to check their T-Life app and send you the referral link. The tile looks like this in the T-Life app under the “Benefits” tab:

Follow the link they send you, and sign up for T-Mobile. Be sure to select yes to “Transfer my number” on at least one of the lines you’re signing up for and enter the number you’re porting from the competitor.

During testing, we were able to get the discount to apply automatically at the cart on desktop using a Verizon number as the port-in, as seen below. Note the “T-Mobile Insider (ID260845)” on the right, and the updated price at the bottom.

You’ll note that both Keep & Switch and the $200 bring-your-own-device credit stacks with the insider code, just like the original 20% codes stack with other promos too. Don’t worry, you don’t have to choose “bring your own device”, we just did so for simplicity during testing.

If the promo doesn’t automatically apply, be sure you’ve entered a competitor number you plan to port in on one of the lines, and if it still doesn’t show, try entering the code sent from your friend in the promo code box at checkout.

Once you’ve finished your signup and paid, make sure you complete your port-in of the number you used during checkout within 14 days.

Other notes for existing customers

If you’re an existing customer and want to share your discount, here are a few things to know.

Each line on your account (at least for now) has its own unique referral code. You can refer only one person per code, but you can share a unique code for as many lines as you have. Just open the T-Life app on each line and find the referral link share button.

Also, even though it’s called a “referral code”, it is not using the typical T-Mobile referral system. That system requires you to share a link beforehand, and offers a $100 prepaid card when someone signs up using your link. It’s unclear if you can stack them (as in, send a referral link first, have your friend register their number on it, then send the insider link), but if you’re willing to risk it, go for it!

Will it last?

T-Mobile has a history of offering deals and then pulling them back at a later date. Most notably, long-time customers were promised “your plan will never change unless you want it to” and then later forced to switch to newer plans.

So will this new 10% off “for life” discount stick around? We’re pretty sure it will.

There are customers with accounts 10+ years old that still have their original 20% insider codes, even when plans were changed multiple times. It seems the insider discount is one discount T-Mobile never really messes with.

In addition, this new insider offer might become a regular thing for T-Mobile. The URL that the shared links go to indicate the offer is called “2026 Q3 and Q4 Postpaid Refer-a-Friend Program”, so T-Mobile might do this again next year. Who knows!

If you’re someone interested in switching to T-Mobile, be sure to snag yourself a 10% Insider Code from a friend. The offer currently has an end date of November 17th, 2026.
