It seems Verizon has been paying attention to how T-Mobile has been gaining market share over the last decade. First, the company mirrored T-Mobile’s 4/$100 iPhone promotion, and now it seems Verizon is making free lines available to certain customers that qualify.
Free Line Offer
According to posts online and confirmed via an internal source, some Verizon customers are being offered a free line in the My Verizon app. The deal appears in the offers section of the app as shown below, and customers must visit a store to get the line added.
As you can see, the free line is BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) only, just like T-Mobile’s free line deal. That means you can’t finance a device on the line or take advantage of phone promotions on the line.
The line should be available to anyone on Unlimited Welcome, postpaid Unlimited Plus, or postpaid Unlimited Ultimate. The only restriction would be if you already have a free line from Verizon (apparently they offered this deal in the past).
The new free line will be an Unlimited Welcome line, and to get the line actually free you’ll need to have the autopay discount. There are a few catches that you’ll need to be aware of, though.

It’s free! For three years anyway..
Hidden in the terms is the fact that the free line with Verizon is limited to 36 months. That means that after 3 years the line apparently becomes a standard paid line. That’s quite a difference when compared to T-Mobile’s free line, which is (for now) for the life of the account.
In addition to the previously mentioned autopay requirement, you’ll also need to be on paperless billing. Oh, and it’s not stackable with other discounts, of course.
Remember, you’ll need to have a spare phone to bring in to add the line to, so don’t forget that when you head to your nearby Verizon store.
The deal is available now, and for a limited time. You can check for yourself in the My Verizon app’s offers page to see if you’re eligible. As for new customers, there’s also Verizon’s “bring in your bill” promotion, where you can bring a bill from AT&T or T-Mobile and they’ll try their best to beat it.
