T-Mobile made a splash today announcing a benefit from 2021 is getting new life.

The “Forever Upgrade” program was promoted for the iPhone 13 launch, and ran from September 2021 to November 2021. Customers who opted in would be guaranteed the new iPhone every two years. Eligible customers who opted in at that time are waking up to a major improvement to the original deal, at no extra cost.

The “Forever Upgrade” Facelift

The T-Mobile “Forever Upgrade” program is now being integrated into the system just like the Go5G Next plan’s “Yearly Upgrade” benefit. This improves upon a number of features of the plan. Upgraded accounts are receiving a text notifying the change, and accounts have already been changed to reflect the new features. It is available starting today: December 7th, 2023.

  • Customers get a new device sooner. Instead of a time gate of 24/30 months, customers get a new device when it is halfway through installment payments (half paid off). It must also be on a payment plan for at least six months.
  • They can take advantage of better device offers, as if their rate plan was on Go5G Next
  • Instead of upgrading into a similar device (like iPhone to iPhone), this program includes any device in T-Mobile’s lineup. Going Apple iPhone to Samsung Galaxy? “Forever Upgrade” couldn’t. Now, you can.

These details were obtained via internal documents shared with us here at The Mobile Report, embedded below.

There are also some logistical considerations. T-Mobile is allowing any consumer who had a pending plan change that would have made them ineligible for this change to revert back and snag it. Also, consumers who inadvertently make the change in the future will be notified that the “Yearly Upgrade” benefit will expire and have 30 days to think on it. T-Mobile is being very transparent about the move, and ensuring customers aren’t leaving good value on the table.

T-Mobile is on a brief roll lately in terms of great value, with other moves like a new hotspot plan coming around (though they didn’t really announce it!). Did you do a “Forever Upgrade” in 2021? Are you excited for these new benefits? Let us know in the comments below.
