Update 1/5/2021:

New documents have been obtained with more details of this change. It appears that customers that receive the plan change text will be forced to migrate by default. Customers that would prefer to not change plans will be required to manually opt-out.

Customer-facing details now available here.

Beginning today, January 5th, legacy Sprint customers on plans listed below will be notified via email or SMS that their service plans will be upgraded.

  • Unlimited Basic – Will be upgraded from 500MB of hotspot to 5GB
  • Unlimited Freedom – Will be upgraded from 50GB of hotspot to 60GB
  • Unlimited Kickstart – Will be upgraded from no hotspot to 5GB
  • Unlimited 55+ – Will be upgraded from unlimited 3G hotspot to 5GB

As a bonus, the plans above will be given a one-time $50 rebate via virtual prepaid card the next time a phone purchase is made. Limit 1 redemption per account.

All these plans will become tax-inclusive. For most customers, that will either mean a decrease in monthly cost or no change. Some customers, however, may see a small increase, not to exceed $2.99.

These changes are set to take place 35 days after notification. Customers that receive notification today (the 5th of January) will be migrated on February 10th. Remaining customers will be notified tomorrow (the 6th of January) and migrated on February 11th.

Customers can opt out of this change within 30 days of receiving the notification by visiting https://www.sprint.com/optout, or within 30 days of the plan changing by contacting support.

For most customers this will be only a positive. Their bill will likely not increase, and you’ll get a $50 rebate on any phone purchase made by July 31st. Previous story below.

According to a post on r/sprint and independently confirmed, starting tomorrow January 5th select customers with certain Sprint plans will receive “some great new benefits” in the form of included taxes and fees, upgraded hotspot, and a $50 rebate towards a phone upgrade.

The following plans are affected:

  • Unlimited Basic (not Plus or Premium)
  • Unlimited Freedom
  • Unlimited Kickstart
  • Unlimited 55+

Taxes and fees will be “baked in” to the existing plans so that the amount you pay will always stay the same regardless of tax and fee changes. This lines up with how things on the Magenta side of the fence does things since the ONE plan days.

SWAC and EBD plans will not be eligible.

The $50 bonus rebate will stack with all phone promos and is valid until July 31st.

Customers will be notified via email and sms of their eligibility.
