Companies make bad decisions all the time. Usually, it’s for the purpose of making profit, because of course, but sometimes these decisions end up causing so much backlash that the company rethinks the decision.

That seems to be the case for T-Mobile, who recently implemented two big changes to phone promos. Now, it seems the company has listened to feedback, especially from sales employees, and has hit the metaphorical undo button on one of those changes.

Premium phone promos return to 4 per account

The big change T-Mobile made just a little over a month ago was to restrict high-end phone promos to just two per account. This meant that, for example, a family of four moving over from a competitor wouldn’t be able to all use the same promo to get new phones.

T-Mobile has now undone this change. As seen on T-Mobile’s website (and confirmed via internal source), the high-end phone promos that were previously restricted to two redemptions per account now have a limit of four again.

Based on what we’ve heard, there were a lot of complaints about the reduction to two per account from employees. Sales reps were frustrated because a family porting in is the bread and butter transaction for making commission. The limit of two of each promo per account made their jobs a lot more difficult.

Free lines are still limited, for now

The other change T-Mobile made last month restricted free lines from receiving phone promos moving forward. This is still the case, but surprisingly there are some new updates on this front.

Long-time customers who received “Line On Us” free lines years ago have had their promo names change to “3rd Line Service Promo with New Line”. This change, while entirely misnamed, allows these free lines to qualify for phone promos, even with the new rules.

It’s an odd way to do it, but it’s nice for customers that have been using these lines for promos for a while.

BOGO lines, on the other hand, are indeed restricted even for these long-time customers (on the free line only).

Signs that T-Mobile listens…sometimes

It’s great to see that T-Mobile learns from their employees. Reversing an unpopular decision shows that T-Mobile is able to be influenced by both the public and their own employees.

I personally never understood why the restriction was made in the first place, and it seems most people agreed it was a bad move. Customers want a good deal if they’re going to move to a new carrier, and limiting those deals to just two per account made other competitors more attractive.

Either way, the currently-available phone promos are now available for up to four lines per account, and that’s a good thing.
