Free lines have always been one of the more popular promotions T-Mobile offers. Back in the early days of “Uncarrier” free lines were handed out like candy to anyone that wanted them.

These days, free lines are a lot more rare, and come with many restrictions. Back in March, T-Mobile offered free lines to select older accounts as a reward for customers with accounts over 10 years old. It also had a few other restrictions, like the account could only have 1 free line already.

According to docs shared with us here at The Mobile Report, T-Mobile is once again planning to hand out free lines to some customers. This time, the terms are a bit different.

The new free line will be available to select customers beginning May 8th. Eligible customers will have a “segment”, which is basically an automated account memo, on their account if eligible.

To qualify, the following conditions must be met:

  • Account must have been opened at least 5 years ago
  • Account cannot have more than 1 free line already
  • Account cannot have “Hometown Discount”, Insider discount, or Work Perks discount
  • Customers cannot have cancelled a voice line in the last 90 days

Notably, this free line seems to be the first one where customers with insider discount aren’t eligible. That discount provides 20% off voice lines for the life of the account, and is a popular discount for customers “in the know” who are planning to migrate to T-Mobile.

Other things worthy of mention are that both employee accounts and business accounts are eligible, and also the free line is BYOD-only for the life of the line. That means you’ll never be able to finance a device on the line, even without a promo.

There’s also a $10 Device Connection Charge that is required when adding the free line.

Text messages to eligible customers begin on May 8th. Customer service should be able to check your account for the “Loyalty BYOD May 2025” segment now, but we suggest simply waiting for May 8th to see if you receive an eligibility text message. If you do, you can order your free line online or in the T-Life app after that date.
