Update: It looks like this special deal is in-store only. Customers interested should, for now, check their local Verizon stores.
Over the weekend, we detailed how both T-Mobile, under their recently acquired Mint Mobile brand, launched a promotion offering up to 4 free lines for 3 months. Soon after, Visible, owned by Verizon, responded with their own deal: 5 years of service at $15/mo exclusively for T-Mobile postpaid customers.
It appears Verizon isn’t stopping there. Thanks to an exclusive tip sent to us here at The Mobile Report, we now know that Verizon is planning to offer a whopping 50% off both of their unlimited plans for an entire year.
The best news here is, this time, it’s not just T-Mobile customers that are eligible. Anyone, even new customers without a number to port in, can sign up for the 50% off and receive it.
The eligible plans include both the Prepaid Unlimited plan, typically $50/mo, and the Prepaid Unlimited Plus plan, typically $60/mo. Those plans will now cost $25/mo and $30/mo respectively.
The standard Prepaid Unlimited plan offers unlimited data that is “deprioritized” over other, higher-tier customers. This means that, in times of high network usage, your device has a lower priority.
Prepaid Unlimited Plus, however, offers that same unlimited data, but with an extra 50GB of “premium” data, which is data that isn’t deprioritized. Even in times of congestion, your data remains top speed.
Other than that, the Plus plan offers 5x more hotspot data (25GB vs 5GB on the standard unlimited plan), global choice (180 talk minutes to your choice of a single country), and access to the Ultra Wideband network. Honestly, since the difference ends up being only $5/mo for the length of the promotion, you might as well go for the Plus plan.
The only catch here is customers must pre-pay for at least 3 months of service. In addition, it only applies to single lines or the primary line on a family plan. Other lines on a family plan will receive the regular discounted “multi-line” rates (currently $20 off full-price for each additional line), but will not be eligible for the 50% off rate.
The 50% off offer is valid for a year, renewed every 3 months by the customer. After a year, the monthly price will likely return to the full cost of the chosen plan.
Verizon’s new offer begins Wednesday, August 28th, and there’s no set end date yet (though it could end at any time). You can find out more about Verizon’s prepaid plans, and sign up once the deal goes live tomorrow, using the button below.
