T-Mobile is diving head-first into the home internet fiber space. After acquiring Lumos and Metronet, the company recently announced plans to acquire GoNetspeed, Greenlight Networks, and i3 Broadband to further their T-Fiber reach.
Naturally, as T-Mobile grows their T-Fiber home internet brand, they’ll be making changes and adjustments to available plans and pricing. Soon, we’ll be seeing the first of these changes.
According to multiple sources, T-Mobile will be changing T-Fiber plans for new customers starting tomorrow, April 30th. There are a number of changes, both positive and negative.
New Plan Tiers And Pricing
T-Mobile’s current fiber plans are shown below. It starts at 500Mbps for $55/mo (with autopay) and goes up to a 2Gbps plan for $70/mo (w/autopay, temporary promotion of $15 off, and any postpaid line).
Note that this image is the old plans that end today.
The new plans will be as follows:
| Plan/Speed | Price w/Autopay |
|---|---|
| 300Mbps | $45/mo |
| 1Gbps | $60/mo |
| 2Gbps | $70/mo |
500Mbps Plan Ends, And No More Voice Line Discount
Notably, the 500Mbps plan is being removed and replaced with 300Mbps at a slightly lower cost, while the 1Gbps plan is getting a slight price reduction. The 2Gbps plan remains the same price, albeit no longer needing a “promo” to be at $70/mo.
It’s not clear why T-Mobile is swapping out the 500Mbps plan for a 300Mbps plan. It makes sense to offer customers an overall cheaper option, but I’d much prefer offering both.
Also, T-Mobile is apparently removing any discounts for having a voice line. Normally, I’d say that’s a bad thing, but T-Mobile is basically moving that discount into the regular cost of the plans. Offering everyone the same lower price instead of limiting it to various promos and requiring postpaid voice lines is a welcome change, in my opinion.
No More Price Guarantee
Unfortunately, there’s one more huge negative with these new plans.
We’re told that the new plans will not include a 5-year price guarantee. That will mean that T-Mobile can change prices on these customers any time they want.
That being said, we’re told that T-Mobile isn’t looking to anger anyone, and given their track record over on the postpaid side, we’d expect most people to keep whatever pricing they have for the forseeable future.
The new plans begin April 30th. If you’ve been waiting to sign up, you might want to do so today while the 5-year guarantee exists.
