We first reported on T-Mobile having fiber-based home internet services way back in 2021. The company started in an apparent partnership with Pilot Fiber in the New York City area. Since then, T-Mobile has quickly expanded, first with service in some parts of Colorado, and then via purchase of other local fiber providers like Metronet and Lumos.
Now that the company serves over 500,000 customers with fiber-optic internet, they’re ready for a full launch. As announced by T-Mobile, T-Fiber will launch on June 5th, 2025.
We previously covered how T-Mobile would offer customers an exclusive “Founder’s Club” promo to Lumos-market customers. That still appears to be true, as the promo was also detailed in T-Mobile’s announcement. The offer gives customers 2-gig symmetrical internet for just $70 per month, with a whopping 10-year price lock.
T-Mobile’s standard rates for fiber, seen below, start at $80/mo for “Fiber 500” at speeds of 500mbps. That’s not a great price when compared to some other fiber providers, but T-Mobile is also offering up to $20 in discounts.
For existing T-Mobile voice customers, a $15 monthly discount is applied, and with autopay enabled, that increases to the full $20. Not bad. However, before launch, customers were also offered a $300 prepaid card and 30 days of service for free. That is now expired, so those benefits are not available to new signups.
Based on information obtained from various internal sources, we believe this date is also the date when existing Lumos customers will be able to transition to become “T-Fiber” customers. We’re not 100% sure about that, but the dates line up.
T-Fiber customers will receive the standard symmetrical speeds and a Wi-Fi 6 router, as well as access to T-Mobile Tuesdays and a 5-year standard price lock.
In addition to the official announcement, we’ve also heard rumor that T-Mobile’s Metronet acquisition is set to close around the beginning of July, with full transition/launch of those customers on T-Fiber set for September. It’s possible those customers may also be offered the Founder’s Club promotion.
If you’re in a Lumos fiber market, or already have Lumos, keep an eye out on Thursday, June 5th, for news of the T-Fiber transition, or pre-order now on T-Mobile’s fiber website. The Founder’s Club promo is a deal worth getting for sure.
