During the glory days of T-Mobile “Un-Carrier”, the company handed out free lines like hotcakes. The lines were completely free, with no strings attached, and nearly any account could add them.

Over time, the frequency of free line offers slowed to a crawl, and by the end of 2023 had stopped all together. Buy-one-get-one free promos still stuck around, but the completely free line promo was considered as good as dead.

Surprisingly though, hot off the heels of a price increase for legacy customers, T-Mobile has now launched a new promotion for targeted accounts that gives them a free voice line, with almost no strings attached. It’s the first time in over two years (that we’re aware of).

Eligible customers can check the T-Life app for the notice shown below to see if they’re eligible. Eligible accounts will have a “segment” on their account called “Loyalty BYOD March 2025”, though it’s worth noting that only T-Mobile employees can check segments on accounts.

This time around, there are a few catches.

First, you’ll have to pay a one-time $10 Device Connection Charge. This is a standard fee now, and isn’t too surprising.

Second, if you already have 2 or more free lines, you may not be eligible for this one. Also, if you’re already maxed out on lines for your account (typically 12 voice lines), you won’t be able to claim it either.

Finally, as the segment name implies, the free line is “BYOD only”. That means you won’t be able to do any financing of a new device on the line, and must bring your own device to use with the line. Typically, this no financing restriction lasts for one year, but your mileage may vary.

The free line offer coincides with the news of price increases for legacy customers, and in fact is listed on the same document internally. The free line is clearly meant as a peace offering to these customers, but the free line is also not strictly limited to customers hit with a price increase.

The free line offer is available now, and if you’re interested, check the T-Life app to see if you have the offer, then call or chat into support to redeem. If you’ve cancelled a voice line in the past 90 days, you won’t be eligible for the free line unless you add the previously removed line back onto your account.
