T-Mobile’s app situation has been in a bit of flux this year.
In January, The T-Mobile Tuesdays app took a new form as the T-Life app. A few months later, scrutiny came as an update pushed ads to the apps, sandwiched between the Tuesday freebies, forcing extra scrolling and meeting general disapproval.
Then, Account management was added to T-Life, starting to raise speculation on the future of the T-Mobile app itself. Then in August, chat support was temporarily broken in the T-Mobile app when it effectively became a clone of the T-Life app.
The writing was on the wall. The T-Mobile app would likely become obsolete, in favor of the all-in-one T-Life app taking its place. Now, T-Mobile has made the move official. The T-Mobile app is no longer downloadable, ending a 12+ year presence since launching in April 2012.
T-Mobile App De-listed, Customers Emailed About T-Life
In both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store, the T-Mobile app is no longer searchable or downloadable for new users, thus solidifying its “delisted” state.
Customers are prompted to download T-Life as a top option when searching for it instead.
On November 7th, many customers were emailed a communication to get the T-Life app as “your new everything app”. No statement has been made officially yet by T-Mobile to customers about the switch or full sunsetting of the older T-Mobile app.
The T-life app has also taken on the same icon as the former T-Mobile app.
Despite the removal, customers who have the T-Mobile app on their phones will find it currently still works. In fact, the app saw its last update on November 6th. The update text reads, “We’ve added a bunch of features so you can do more right in the app!” What those features are are not detailed.
Without being listed in any app stores, future updates to the app may be unlikely. For now, the app experience is still a 1-to-1 match to the T-Life app, with no differentiation in features. However, it is currently still online for the time being.
In both apps, customers can still receive their “Magenta Status” benefits, including T-Mobile Tuesdays deals. You can also shop device deals and manage various account details. The “Connect” tab helps you manage device trackers, see local dining options eligible for T-Mobile Dining Rewards, and locations of local T-Mobile stores.
Typically when apps receive a re-brand, they simply overtake the existing app. This time, though, T-Mobile had multiple apps to combine into one: T-Mobile, T-Mobile Tuesdays, T-Mobile Home Internet, etc. The company chose the Tuesdays app as the one to change into T-Life, so the T-Mobile app is now redundant.
It’s possible that T-Mobile will continue to update the “T-Mobile” app over time to match T-Life, just in case there are customers that inevitably haven’t switched. It’s likely, though, that sooner or later the company will add a pop-up message to the “T-Mobile” app forcing customers to switch over to T-Life.
Our advice: Don’t wait! It is time to get your new T-Mobile account app. Get your applicable version on the Google Play Store of the Apple App Store now.
