Back in April of 2021, T-Mobile launched a tracker device called the SyncUP Tracker. It worked similarly to an Apple AirTag, but instead of using iOS devices for tracking, the SyncUP uses T-Mobile’s nationwide cell service combined with GPS to keep a location lock.

At launch, many people said the devices seemed a bit pointless. Why pay monthly for such a device when an AirTag is a one-time purchase and works almost as well? That being said, it seems they were popular enough for T-Mobile, because there’s now a new revision to the SyncUP Tracker hardware, fittingly called SyncUP Tracker 2.

As shown in documents shared with us here at The Mobile Report and now confirmed via listings on T-Mobile’s website, T-Mobile is now selling the SyncUP Tracker 2.

You might be asking what’s new compared to the original model. Well, not much. The device is nearly identical to the original model, featuring 2.4 GHz WiFi and LTE network connectivity only. Interestingly, the FCC listing shows it’s made by “T-Mobile”, but the manufacturer is listed as TCL on T-Mobile’s website just like the previous version.

The new tracker claims a 10-day “standby” battery life, which isn’t too bad for a device with cellular connectivity, but comes nowhere close to an Apple AirTag’s “over a year” of life. The battery capacity matches the previous model at 890 mAh, but the new device’s 10-day claim is a whole 3 days longer than the original tracker’s claim of just 7 days.

Otherwise, the specs are identical to the first model, even down to an identical chip inside. The only difference appears to be the look of the device and the fact that there’s no longer a charging dock, just a charging cable that directly plugs in via USB-C.

Oh, and instead of a dedicated Tracker app, the new device uses the new all-in-one T-Life app.

The key thing T-Mobile may have going for it over the competition is price. Alongside the launch of the device, T-Mobile is offering the SyncUP Trackers for free when you add an associated Tracker line. That line is also on promo, costing just $3 per month each. Customers can claim the deal up to 12 times per account.

The new deal is set to launch today, though the website does not yet reflect the $3 offer. Customers can snag one now on T-Mobile’s website or in-store.
