T-Mobile has announced an impressive new deal for limited data customers.

Starting April 18th, customers on AT&T or Verizon that have a limited data plan can switch to T-Mobile and get a Magenta Essentials plan for the same or less than what they’re paying now. They call it the “Unlimited TradeUp”. The offer lasts through the end of 2021.

In addition, existing T-Mobile and Sprint customers still on a legacy data-limited plan will be automatically upgraded to Magenta Essentials and get unlimited data at no cost.

This is big news for customers still on really old non-unlimited plans on T-Mobile. This will effectively make every customers on T-Mobile and Sprint an unlimited data customer.

So far, it seems the upgrade only applies to standard phone line plans, not tablet or hotspot plans.

This was announced alongside plans to give all postpaid customers free 5G phones, as well as the full launch of T-Mobile Home Internet.
