For long-time T-Mobile customers, there’s nothing scarier than the idea of your plan changing to a newer one without consent. Migrating to newer plans from older ones often cause promos to be removed and prices to go up, so it’s important to make sure it never changes.
Unfortunately, there seems to be a bit of an issue when it comes to ordering through a specific third-party vendor lately, and it’s causing plans to change without warning.
As reported on both Reddit and directly with us here at The Mobile Report, some customers are seeing their plans changed without notice after placing a T-Mobile order via Apple. These customers are able to contact T-Mobile and have the change reverted, but it’s still something that’s likely to scare the pants off someone when they see it.
Ordering via Apple
When it comes time for a T-Mobile customer to order a new iPhone, T-Mobile will often give trade-in credit towards new devices. These are your typical carrier promos towards new devices.
However, there’s an ability to order a new iPhone direct from Apple, but at the same time utilizing a carrier promo. This has benefits over ordering direct from T-Mobile, mainly that the new iPhone is unlocked from day one instead of having to wait for the phone to be paid off over 2 years.
Customers simply complete the order via Apple’s website or Apple Store app, and Apple will ask the customer to login to their T-Mobile account and connect it with their Apple account so that the customer can receive the promo.
There’s just one problem: it seems that sometimes, Apple is doing something that causes a plan change. Specifically, it seems that when using the Apple Store app to complete the purchase, it can cause a plan change.
From Go5G to Experience
As many have reported, the result of placing an iPhone promotional order via the Apple Store app has caused numerous plan changes.
In particular, one user ordered an iPhone 17 Pro Max via the Apple Store app and had their plan changed from Go5G Plus to Experience Beyond. That’s quite a change, and would likely result in numerous price increases.
People in the comments were also expressing their own frustrations. There are also reports of the issue on the unofficial T-Mobile Discord server as well.
Don’t Panic
There’s a solution to the problem, though.
If you want to order via Apple and redeem a T-Mobile promo, you might want to stick to the Apple website. It seems the issue doesn’t occur when using the website.
If you’ve already ordered via the Apple Store app, go check your plan. If it’s been changed, contact T-Mobile and have them revert the change.
Luckily, there seems to be no lasting damage when it comes to this issue. Hopefully T-Mobile and Apple will have the issue fixed soon. For now, just keep a close eye on your account.
