T-Mobile unexpectedly announced their newest plans, Experience More and Experience Beyond, earlier this year. One of the more surprising aspects of the new plans was that the company would no longer include taxes and fees into the base price.

These new plans were the first time T-Mobile’s mainline voice plans, excluding “essentials” plans, haven’t included taxes and fees since the ONE plan back in 2017. Now we have word that the company is also removing tax-inclusive versions of pretty much every other plan, too.

According to multiple sources, all plans on T-Mobile moving forward will be tax exclusive, except home internet plans.

This means that all of T-Mobile’s smartwatch, hotspot, and other “BTS” lines (beyond the smartphone) will have taxes and fees added on top of the base monthly price.

Apparently, T-Mobile is enabling a “mix and match” situation so that even customers with tax inclusive voice plans will still pay taxes on these other non-voice lines.

For example, the popular secret 30GB hotspot plan we covered a few years back will likely only be available in the “TE” version moving forward. That would mean the line would be $10 plus tax instead of just a flat $10.

Weirdly, all home internet plans will be tax inclusive moving forward, and home internet plans will no longer be available in tax exclusive versions. That’s pretty odd, but I guess they have their reasons.

The good news is that T-Mobile is expected to grandfather in existing lines. If you’re currently not paying taxes on your lines, that will continue. In fact, the other way around is also true. If you’ve got a tax exclusive home internet line, that line will continue to be tax exclusive unless you change your plan, presumably.

Sources say these changes could be taking place today, June 18th, or “after” June 18th, which would begin on Thursday the 19th. We’re not sure which.

If you’ve been planning on adding a non-voice line to your account, be sure to attempt to do so today if the taxes included version is still available.
