Most of the stuff you need to know about your T-Mobile account can be seen by simply logging into your account online or in the T-Life app. It’ll be enough for a majority of customers. But what about all the extra details that T-Mobile doesn’t think you need to know?
That’s where a new unofficial browser extension from developer TehPirate comes in. Available for both Google Chrome and Firefox, the browser add-on scans the T-Mobile website for all of your account data (with your permission) and displays it in a nice and easy to read interface.
You might be wondering what exactly this extension would be useful for. After all, a standard account page on T-Mobile’s website should share everything worth knowing, right? Well, not always.
One big thing this extension shows is your SOC codes. SOC codes are individual identification codes for every plan, feature, and add-on an account may have. Your overall account has an SOC code that uniquely identifies your specific plan, and your individual lines and add-ons have their own codes, too.
Remember the cancelled forced migration that T-Mobile had planned at one point? The opt-out for that had it’s own SOC code, too, and it’s viewable with this extension.
Have any discounts or service promos, like free lines? Perhaps a Netflix or Hulu discount? Those have SOC codes too! The browser extension shows you all of these, and more.
These can be useful to know when a particular promotion launches at T-Mobile. In the past, we’ve covered promotions that include a list of eligible SOC codes. Knowing your own code can help you cross reference and see if you might be eligible for a certain offer even if T-Mobile themselves don’t tell you.
In addition to SOC codes, the extension offers other information. A key detail that might be helpful for many is your total credit line you have available with T-Mobile. T-Mobile doesn’t publicly display this information, which can often lead to customers going to buy a phone on installments and being hit with a surprise down payment requirement.
The extension also breaks down each line you have on your account and what the estimated cost of each one is. It also displays the currently attached device and IMEI number for easy viewing. This is available directly from T-Mobile, too, but having it all in one place without having to dig through menus on the T-Mobile website or T-Life app is nice. It even shows you how many installments are left on your devices on a per-line basis.
Now, we should reiterate that this is an unofficial browser extension, and by running it you’re giving it permission to read very personal information about your account. That being said, the extension does not save any data and does not report any data back to the developer (other than SOC codes that you have to opt-in to send). The extension runs entirely locally to your computer.
The best part? The extension is fully open-source, so if you’re worried about privacy and safety, you can check out the code yourself before running it.
The extension is available now on the official Firefox and Google Chrome web stores, linked below.
