Every company in existence seems to offer their own branded credit card. Whether you’re shopping for groceries at Costco or picking up a new fridge at Best Buy, store credit cards are everywhere. But what about cell phone carriers?

Well, both Verizon and AT&T have their own credit cards which offer various perks like cash back on your bill. T-Mobile first dabbled in the payments market via “T-Mobile Money“, a checking and savings service offering up to 4% APY, and now it appears T-Mobile might be entering the credit card game too.

According to sources within T-Mobile, the company may soon offer a credit card to customers. Not only that, but thanks to some detective work, we were able to find the below image embedded inside the official T-Life app, which seemingly confirms the plan.

The details are practically non-existent, but we can make a few guesses.

First, the filename internally is “t_card_account_link”, which implies that the company will allow customers to link their cards to the app for payment purposes. It’s entirely likely the app itself will offer the card in the first place to potential customers.

Second, the image suggests the bank the company is going with for the credit card is Capital One. A deal like this takes a while to work out between companies, so we’re pretty sure this is accurate in terms of leaks are concerned.

As for other details, we can guess based on how other carriers handle their offers.

Verizon and AT&T’s way of doing things

Over at Verizon, a Visa Signature card is available that offers 4% cash back rewards on select categories that can then be spent as a credit on your Verizon bill. They also offer 0% financing for 12 months on some accessory purchases, and a few one-time credits for initial purchases. Verizon’s credit card uses Synchrony Bank as their partner.

Meanwhile, AT&T offers a “Points Plus” Citi MasterCard with monthly statement credits of $10-$20 when you spend a certain amount on the card, as well as other benefits. The company also allows the card to be used for the autopay discount on bills, despite removing the discount for other credit cards recently.

It’s reasonable to think T-Mobile may offer similar perks.

New autopay discount method?

Just like AT&T, T-Mobile eliminated autopay discounts when paying with credit cards back in mid-2023. It was a sore point when they did it, and it’s easy to see why. Could the new credit card be allowed to earn the autopay discount?

While there’s no way to be sure, we’d bet on it. It’s an easy perk for the company to add as a “value” to signing up for the card, and it’s a likely move to make.

Overall, the T-Mobile credit card is entering a market flooded by other competing credit cards. Will the new card offer perks good enough to entice customers to sign up? Only time will tell.
