The “Uncarrier” launched their Carrier Freedom initiative all the way back in 2015. The idea was that, if you switched to T-Mobile, they’d pay off your existing contract with the competitor.
The most recent iteration of the benefit offered up to $650 back via prepaid card to pay off your old carrier, for up to 2 lines total. In addition, they offered up to $830 off a new phone when trading in an existing phone.
According to sources, the company will greatly increase the offers to more closely match what AT&T’s new switch and save offer provides.
$800 Rebate Each, For Up To 4 Lines
Starting today, T-Mobile will now offer up to $800 per line for switching to T-Mobile, which is an increase of $150 each. Plus, instead of just 2 lines, the company will pay for up to 4 lines.
That means a family of 4 with phone contracts on a competitor can switch to T-Mobile and have the company pay for as much as $3,200 worth of their old contract.
Essentially, when moving from a competitor like AT&T or Verizon, customers can pay off their existing phones, along with any early termination fees if applicable, and port their number into a new plan on T-Mobile. During the signup, the customer picks a new phone, and trades in the one they just paid off. Finally, once established, customers submit the bill they paid off to T-Mobile for rebate processing.
Up To $1000 In Bill Credits With Trade-in
Along with the $800 per line to pay off the previous carrier, customers can also receive up to $1000 in bill credits for their existing phone. That’s an increase of $170 over the previous limit of $830.
As one example, a customer can pay off their old iPhone 13 Pro at AT&T, have T-Mobile reimburse them for the payoff amount, then trade that iPhone 13 Pro in to T-Mobile to receive a free iPhone 16 Pro via 24 months of bill credits. Not too shabby!
The new offer is scheduled to begin today, March 6th. You can find all the details over on T-Mobile’s website using the button below once it goes live.
