Update: Now confirmed.

Every postpaid carrier (and even some prepaid carriers) offers device insurance to cover accidental loss, theft, or damage of your phone or other cellular device. For some, it’s an absolute necessity, especially on higher-end devices that can cost over $1000.

T-Mobile offers device insurance via their “Protection<360>” service (shortened as P360). The plan covers lost or stolen devices, accidental damage, hardware issues after warranty, unlimited screen protector replacements, and more. Customers pay between $7 and $25 per month for this protection, depending on the value and cost of the device itself.

Typically, with P360, customers must either add protection at the time of purchase or add it within 30 days. Now, it appears the company will remove that 30-day restriction, and allow anyone to sign up for P360 at any time.

According to info shared with us here at The Mobile Report, T-Mobile will soon allow open enrollment to the P360 protection plan for all postpaid customers.

The source, who is trusted but was unable to provide supporting documents yet, says the original plan was to remove the 30-day restriction last week, but it was slightly delayed. The new date is now Tuesday, July 16th.

It’s unclear if customers will need to bring their devices to a store for a hardware check before signup, but chances are likely. Currently, customers signing up within the 30-day window after purchase are required to have their device inspected to prevent fraud.

T-Mobile has previously offered limited “open enrollment” periods to allow customers to enroll outside of the 30-day window. This will be the first time the 30-day restriction will be lifted permanently.

The expected date for open P360 enrollment is July 16th. We’ll be sure to update once we have confirmation.
