Late fees are annoying. Often, features like AutoPay are in place so that when you do forget to manually process a payment, the money will be charged to you by the due date.
In fact, basically anything that sends you a bill probably has an autopay feature of sorts, whether that’s your phone bill or your credit card, typically because companies prefer you don’t forget to pay them.
T-Mobile actually gives discounts when you enable autopay, and if you don’t have autopay set up on your account, you might want to do so now, because it’s getting more expensive for you to forget.
T-Mobile has begun sending out emails letting customers know that those who fail to pay their wireless bills by the due date will soon be subject to a higher fixed minimum late fee, rising from the current $7 minimum to $10 as of November 1, 2025.
The new policy dictates that the late fee applied to an overdue account will be the greater of two calculated amounts: either 5% of the applicable monthly charges or the set minimum fee.
With the minimum penalty increasing by nearly 43% — from $7 to $10 — customers with lower monthly bills are the most likely to be affected by the fixed-rate increase. For instance, a customer whose bill is under $200 will now be charged the higher $10 minimum. The company has also clarified that the fee will not exceed the maximum amount permitted under state law in the customer’s jurisdiction.
Of course, you can bypass the charge by paying on time or enabling AutoPay, which is what T-Mobile wants to encourage, since it will take the stress element out of the payment process and fully eliminate late fees.
To enable autopay, you can read T-Mobile’s support article here. You won’t have to remember to pay since T-Mobile will just automatically charge you when the time comes. Oh, and make sure your autopay payment method is either a debit card or a bank account to get that sweet discount.
