Senior citizens rarely need all of the bells and whistles that come with most cell phone plans recently. What’s your grandmother going to do with all that unlimited 5G, hotspot data, or 4K streaming on apps like Netflix? If you don’t need much, you might as well keep that money in your pocket. AT&T’s latest plan is a pretty neat opportunity to do just that.
AT&T’s 55+ plans are available now, and at a price that makes even T-Mobile blush. For a single line, you’ll be able to pay just $40 per month for unlimited calls, texting, and data, as well as 10GB of hotspot data per month.
If you want two lines, you’ll pay even less, as the cost per line goes down to a measly $35. And you can do up to four lines, bringing the grand total to $140 per month for four lines. Not too shabby. Plus, if you need AT&T for home internet service, you can bundle that too. Two lines of 55+ and either Internet 300 (fiber) or Internet Air (5G) is just $99/mo bundled together.
Comparing it to T-Mobile’s 55+ offerings, this one looks pretty similar to T-Mobile’s Essentials Choice 55 plan, though that plan is more limited than what AT&T is offering here. T-Mobile’s plan starts at $45 for a single line for unlimited calls and texting, but only 50GB of “premium data,” after which you get deprioritized.
If you get two lines with T-Mobile 55+, it actually undercuts AT&T’s offering at $30 per month per line, or a total of $60, but it also only supports a maximum of two lines. It’s a bit hit or miss which one comes out on top, and notably AT&T may “slow down” data at any point if the network is busy, vs T-Mobile promising 50GB of data before that happens.
