Are you having issues with your T-Mobile Home Internet while gaming? You’re not alone.

According to multiple reports across Reddit, T-Mobile Home Internet customers with a specific model of gateway are having issues on the latest firmware.

Users report being kicked from online matches during gameplay and issues with voice chat services, while others report issues using VPNs at all.

The culprit appears to be the latest firmware for the G4SE model of gateway. That’s the “Gen 4” white model made by Sercomm, and looks identical to the G4AR. However, the G4AR does not appear to have the issue.

The G4AR/G4SE

Firmware version 1.03.19 is the latest one for the G4SE, and it’s been narrowed down as the problem. Some customers have reported swapping their gateways out has fixed the issue, though many are receiving the identical model in return.

We reached out to T-Mobile about the issue, and they confirmed in a statement that an issue is known:

Thanks for reaching out on this. We’re aware of an issue that’s intermittently impacting service for a small number of Home Internet customers and are actively working to resolve it.

T-Mobile Media Relations

It’s not clear what steps T-Mobile has taken to mitigate the issue, especially given the vague acknowledgement, but it’s likely that the 1.03.19 firmware has been paused while they iron out the kinks. For now, the latest firmware that’s “safe” is version 1.03.14.

It’s also not clear when we can expect a fix. T-Mobile usually only updates their gateways roughly once every 6 months, but it’s likely they’ll be rushing out a hotfix soon.

We’ll be sure to keep you posted once a new version is pushed out.
