Long-time T-Mobile customers will remember the day John Legere passed the CEO title over to Mike Sievert. It was a sad time, because Legere was the mastermind behind raising T-Mobile into the top three carrier it is today. Now it is time for Sievert to do the same.
T-Mobile has announced that CEO Mike Sievert will be handing over the reigns of CEO to current COO Srini Gopalan.
Sievert will remain in a senior management role at T-Mobile, in the newly created position of Vice Chairman. In this role, T-Mobile says he will continue to advise the company on long-term strategy and other things.
“I couldn’t be more excited to announce Srini Gopalan as our next CEO. When I recruited Srini to be our COO, I knew he had the skills, experience and Un-carrier mindset to lead our company into the future. Srini has been an incredible partner in shaping the future of T-Mobile as well as instrumental in leading our record growth this year and driving initiatives to serve customers in new ways and win them for life. […] I have full trust and confidence in his vision for T-Mobile, and the Un-carrier’s ability to innovate to an even greater extent under his leadership.”
Mike Sievert, current CEO
Gopalan was appointed to COO quite recently in March of this year. Prior to that, he served on the T-Mobile Board of Directors for nearly 4 years, and was the CEO of Deutsche Telekom’s German business unit, Telekom Deutschland GmbH.
He’s also previously held senior leadership roles at Bharti Airtel, Capital One and Vodafone.
“I am honored and grateful for the trust Mike and the Board have placed in me, and for the opportunity to lead T-Mobile’s next chapter.”
