It’s good news for T-Mobile and Lumos customers! The cell carrier announced the successful close of their joint venture to acquire fiber internet provider Lumos, meaning current and future Lumos customers will become T-Mobile Fiber customers.
T-Mobile invested heavily in their Lumos fiber coverage
Lumos currently operates a 7,500-mile fiber network across 475,000 homes in the Mid-Atlantic, with T-Mobile’s goal being 3.5 million homes by the end of 2028. To reach that goal, the carrier has invested $950 million into the joint venture, with an additional $500 million planned between 2027 and 2028.
The carrier will provide an update to its full-year 2025 guidance resulting from this transaction during its Q1 earnings call.
“T-Mobile is already the fastest-growing broadband provider in America, and expanding into fiber helps us take the next big step in delivering what customers truly want – faster, more reliable internet that simply works,” said Mike Katz, T-Mobile President of Marketing, Strategy, and Products. “People deserve better when it comes to their home internet: fewer disruptions, more value, and support that actually feels supportive. We’re excited to welcome Lumos customers to the T-Mobile family and bring them the Un-carrier experience – built around their needs, fueled by innovation, and focused on making life easier.”
A special offer for early birds
According to an internal document shared with The Mobile Report, we’ve learned of a T-Fiber Founders Club offer for select customers that offers the fastest plan for only $70 after autopay. It includes a speed of 2Gbps, an impressive 10-year price guarantee, and whole-home Wi-Fi. Those select customers will receive the offer via email and text message.
The deal comes out to a $20 savings over the standard 2Gbps plan with voice line discount, and a whopping $35 savings over the plan without voice line discount.
However, there are two slight caveats. The first is that if customers don’t opt for autopay, the price increases to $75. The second is that the 10-year price guarantee is only valid if customers don’t switch or disconnect their plans.
Regardless, the offer seems like a pretty good reason to be an early bird. Not only do you get the fastest speed for cheap, but you’re also immune to price increases for a whole decade.
To claim the offer, customers in Lumos markets should check their address on the T-Fiber website. According to a T-Mobile Fiber support rep, the deal may not show at checkout for new customers, but should apply retroactively after the fact. It’s not entirely clear how the offer works for existing Lumos customers, but they should keep an eye out on their emails for info.
Will you hop on the train, or do you just not need fiber quite yet? Let us know!
