Price Lock was first introduced back in 2022 as a replacement for the company’s “Un-Contract” promise. The idea was that, as long as you maintain your current plan, you won’t be forced to pay more unless you make changes yourself.

The company later changed the program to just a “promise” that they won’t raise prices, but that if they do, they’ll pay for your last month’s bill. That’s in addition to raising rates on some accounts that were on “Un-Contract”, which led to some very angry customers.

Now it seems the company really wants to be able to raise prices for some customers moving forward, specifically for fiber home internet customers.

According to a document shared with us here at The Mobile Report, T-Mobile will no longer offer Price Lock to new fiber home internet customers moving forward.

The document refers to Price Lock as a “promotion”, and says it’s ending January 20th, 2025 (that’s today at the time of publication). Luckily, existing customers prior to January 20th get to keep their Price Lock.

Interestingly, it seems that even the Price Lock that was offered before was the one that only promises to pay your last month’s bill if T-Mobile ever raises prices. That’s the same as the promise for regular voice line customers, and basically isn’t really a “lock” at all, but more of a promise that is easily broken.

Given that, it’s not making much sense why T-Mobile would want to get rid of the promise unless they have long-term plans to raise prices.

T-Mobile also entered into an agreement to buy Lumos, a smaller fiber home internet company in the Eastern part of the US, back in April of 2024. That deal is expected to close sometime early this year, with Lumos customers therefore becoming T-Mobile customers.

So far, this decision only applies to fiber home internet customers of T-Mobile. Interestingly, T-Mobile’s newest 5G Home Internet plans include the best version of Price Lock, which is an actual guarantee that prices won’t go up. It’s odd that T-Mobile has decided not to Price Lock their fiber customers in the same way.

There’s no indication that prices are increasing yet, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see them go up a bit in the near future.
