In a business deal that seems like ages ago now, T-Mobile purchased Sprint as a whole back in April of 2020. It’s been over 3 years, but it looks like the end of Sprint is finally here.
Internal documents shared with us here at The Mobile Report confirms that a final date has been set for the end of Sprint transactions in retail stores, and thus, the effective end of the Sprint brand.
First, on May 26th, the systems that allow store representatives to order devices for customers to pick up in-store will shut down. After that date, orders must be placed ship-to-home. Customers with existing orders must pick them up by June 9th.
After that, on June 10th, most Sprint transactions will be completely unavailable in-store. The only things Sprint customers will be able to do is make express payments or pick up pending orders. Remorse returns will also be accepted.
Finally, June 25th will be the last day for all Sprint transactions. This will, in effect, be the day Sprint ends. The Sprint app and website will only accept payments after this date, and eventually that will shut down too.
A week later, the process of removing physical Sprint equipment in stores begins.
T-Mobile previously began removing Sprint equipment from stores that did not see high Sprint traffic back in October of 2022. Those stores were told to direct customers to the nearest store that supported Sprint, and the online store locator also specified if a store supported Sprint customers.
The company shut down Sprint’s 3G CDMA network about a year ago. Then, at the end of April of this year, T-Mobile fully disabled Sprint SIM cards that were still in use out in the wild. The writing has been on the wall for Sprint for quite a while.
Sprint plan customers have been slowly migrated over time to the T-Mobile biller, and a high majority have already completed that migration (for better or worse). There may still be a small subset of customers still on the Sprint biller, but they are few and far between.
