T-Mobile has begun a rollout of a new firmware update for the 5G Home Internet Gateway that includes a multitude of fixes.

According to an internal document we’ve obtained, and further confirmed via reports from Reddit, the “0178” firmware update is slowly being rolled out to customers over the month of May.

Internal Firmware Rollout Details

The update, version 1.2003.03.0178, has been highly anticipated by the T-Mobile Home Internet community. It features fixes for a few of the biggest complaints with the device, such as some VPN services not working, Xbox Party Chat functionality, and more.

Here is a list of all the fixes coming with the update:

  • TR Agent crashing (fixes the device showing offline for customer service tools)
  • Fixes VPN issues with the IKEv2, L2TP, and IPSec protocols
  • Fixes Xbox Party Chat functionality
  • Fixes LineLink connection issues (for customers with T-Mobile’s home phone adapter)
  • Fixes issues with Wi-Fi Calling and uPNP

The firmware update is apparently being rolled out in small batches over the month of May. As seen in the internal document shown above, updates will only be rolled out overnight between the hours of 2am and 5am PT on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Each week the number of devices deploying the update increases, starting with about 9,000 devices during the week of May 4th and ending with about 34,000 during the week of May 25th.

Customers who have been in touch with customer support about these issues and had troubleshooting tickets submitted for them may have their device moved to the front of the list for the new firmware.
